July 19: While the Prime Minister has made reassuring comments on the economic recovery, India's power crisis is set to get much worse. On one hand, thermal power producers have increased coal imports to battle slowing domestic output, and on the other the government recently announced a significant hike in gas prices. While this may boost power generation, it will be too expensive for state electricity boards and consumers to buy.
