September 6: Kirit Parikh, Former Member at The Planning Commission, says the government has wasted a lot of opportunities in liberalizing diesel prices. “It is better to raise diesel price by Rs.4-5/l, with a fixed subsidy of Rs.8, which can be reduced over time,” he says, adding that a one-time diesel price hike is the best thing to do. He adds that shutting down petrol pumps earlier is not a feasible option to cut consumption and offers suggestions to improve the situation.
