September 13: There was never a situation of gloom and doom in India, CMIE’s Mahesh Vyas says, adding that even 4.5% growth is enough. The continuing slowdown is longer than we expected and show no signs of letting up, he says. Recent positive trade, inflation and IIP numbers are short term and not enough to signal a turnaround. “Improvement in these numbers has previously given false hope, we now need to wait and watch if the improvement is consistent,” he says.
