October 1: Morgan Stanley’s William Strong says the US shutdown will be short-lived but the size of the US federal workforce, excluding defence, out of work will have a 15 bps impact on GDP. He says the Fed taper may start in early 2014, which will be difficult for EMs. Referring to India, he says the elections as crucial. “If the right changes are made, it has an exceptional future,” he says, pointing out that FIIs still invest in India despite all its problems.
