February 21: The DoT has released the much awaited telecom M&A guidelines. As per the new guidelines, the merged entity's market share will be capped at 50% per service area, while the entity cannot hold more than 25% of the spectrum available in each circle. Speaking to Bloomberg TV India, Romal Shetty, Head - Telecom Practice, KPMG India, says that the new norms may encourage consolidation in the sector. However, he adds, “We do not foresee two large telecom players coming together.”
