In a career that spreads wide, media personality Vikram Oza is today Consulting Editor with Business News channel BTVI. As part of the organization since its inception as UTVi in 2008, Vikram has taken on various editorial roles through the channel’s various avatars as UTVi, Bloomberg UTV, Bloomberg TV India and now as BTVI.
As Editor and Anchor, Vikram has conceptualized, led and driven several projects in the media business in TV, Newspapers, Magazines, Radio, and Digital Marketing. He deep-dives into both the creative and operational aspects. At a broader level, he is consumed by the seminal nature of ‘Communication’ – on how to extract the potential of each medium to connect with varied audiences exposed to what is clearly an information glut.
Currently on BTVI, Vikram drives content and anchors the live Equity Market show ‘Lunch Money’; the business of entertainment show ‘Movies, Money & More’ and the luxury-lifestyle flagship programme ‘Aspire’ which has had a spectacular run of close to 300 episodes.
With a successful run of ‘World 360’ behind him, Vikram presented a daily comprehensive synopsis of world events and newsmakers in partnership with Reuters.
Also in the past he has driven and anchored the channel’s weekday evening prime time shows like ‘Final Word’ and a host of current affairs-based discussions on wide-ranging themes that cover business, economy, trade, finance, marketing and technology.
Vikram’s deep understanding of Corporate Marketing Strategies have been in evidence through the insights he shared with viewers on the programme ‘From Logo To Impact’. Besides these, to his credit are a diverse range of feature programmes: the much acclaimed Personal Finance show ‘Smart Money’ that shared investment advice; the ratings topper real estate tracker ‘Property Matters’, the adrenaline-pumping ‘Autocar Show’, the gadget-driven ‘Techtree’ and the higher-education guide ‘Cracking Careers’ – All of these were among the several noteworthy programmes he has produced and often anchored. To his conceptual credit are shows that have broken new ground and won awards – like ‘The Assignment’ – an edgy reality show where working MBA professionals got a chance to live their dream jobs.
Vikram’s journey in the world of rich-in-concept Non-Fiction Programming has seen him hold senior editorial positions at TV channels like Times Now where he headed a team that produced a large-scale chat show called ‘Life’s Like That’, a travel show called ‘Take A Break’ and a lifestyle magazine show ‘High Life’ that picked up top honours at the News Television Awards as the best-in-class of its time. Vikram was part of the founding team at Times Now working on setting up the features content.
Today, as a TV Presenter, a Host of live events, a Journalist, he dons many hats. Vikram travels extensively to host events and conduct panel discussions. From technology to education to politics, personal finance and real estate, Vikram has the knack to make any discussion absorbing and hugely interactive.
An accomplished documentary filmmaker, Vikram has collaborated with organisations like the BBC and Radio Netherlands to research, write, produce, direct and voice several films such as ‘Breaking the AIDS Barrier’, ‘Daano-Pani’ for the United Nations’ World Food Programme, and ‘Prayers in the Wind’ – an eco-tourism film for the Govt of Arunachal Pradesh, besides an eclectic range of documentaries commissioned by Films Division. His connection with the BBC was forged in London when he worked as a Producer for the weekday show ‘Asia Today’ on BBC World after completing his MA in Journalism Studies at Cardiff University, UK.
Since his days at Mumbai’s Sydenham College where he graduated in Economics, Vikram has reported and written extensively on a wide range of topics for newspapers like The Times of India, Mid-day and magazines like Man’s World, Elle and Society. He brought forth his knowledge to students at the many classes he conducted at Journalism schools such as Xavier Institute of Communications (XIC). With his abiding interest in the spoken word and haute couture, Vikram has written a coffee-table book which is a comprehensive guide to Suits for apparel-maker Van Heusen. He has also fuelled his passion for Radio as a radio-jockey and lent his voice to a slew of documentaries and ad films.
For his love of languages, Vikram has pursued his interest in French at the Alliance Francaise in Mumbai and Spanish while he was a student in the UK. Heavily into fitness, he practices yoga, swims regularly and on most mornings you would find him on an early run at Mumbai’s Marine Drive. Passionate about travel and never one to miss an opportunity for adventure sports, he has recently taken a driving vacation down the east coast of the United States and a sky dive in Dubai!
