The government has decided to reduce the rate of contribution under the ESI Act from 6.5 per cent to 4 per cent with employers’ contribution being reduced from 4.75 to 3.25 per cent and that of employees from 1.75 to 0.75 per cent.
BJP President Amit Shah chaired a meeting with party leaders including state chiefs to discuss the schedule for organizational elections, membership drive and other related issues such as possibly finding his successor.
The government will seek the support of the opposition parties in getting crucial bills passed in the session including one on triple talaq which among others were approved by the union cabinet on Wednesday, the sources said.
The Bill seeks to extend the period for reconstitution of the Central Council from existing period of one year to two years so that the tenure of the Board of Governors may be extended for one more year from May 17, 2019.
Sources have indicated that there is every possibility that Amit Shah will continue as President till December this year to oversee important state elections in Haryana, Maharashtra and Jharkhand where BJP is the incumbent. There is also a possibility of J&K currently under President's Rule going to the polls in the interim as well.
