India to seek land in Chabahar SEZ from Iran
Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari to present India's wish list to Iran during his visit on October 3-4
New Delhi: India will soon seek cheaper gas and land in the lucrative Chabahar special economic zone for setting up petrochemical and fertiliser projects, sources told Bloomberg TV India on Wednesday.
New Delhi will also offer to develop railway line between Chabahar and Afghanistan Border when Transport Minister Nitin Gadkari visits Iran during October 3-4 for attending a conference.
"Discussions with Iran government on Chabahar petchem projects, rail line and gas supply are on the agenda during Gadkari's visit to Iran," an official said.
On Wednesday, the agenda was discussed by Gadkari, Oil Minister Dharmendra Pradhan, Railways Minister Suresh Prabhu, and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval at a meeting.
"India will seek land from Iran in Chabahar SEZ for petro-chemical, fertiliser and other gas based industries," an official said. "Getting reasonable price for gas is also on the wish-list," he said.
India and Iran signed MoU in May 2015 on enhancing economic ties. India will develop two berths of port with an investment of Rs 2,260 crore at Chabahar.
