The Mobile World Congress show will take place in Barcelona from Monday, February 25 to Thursday, February 28.
Mobile World Congress (MWC) is the biggest show in the year when it comes to phones. Some of the most prominent flagship devices are unveiled during MWC every year and this year is expected to be just as exciting. 5G compatible devices are expected to be a prevailing theme this year. The Mobile World Congress show will take place in Barcelona from Monday, February 25 to Thursday, February 28.
Here are some of the important announcements expected in this year’s MWC show.
Samsung may announce its next flagship, the Samsung Galaxy S10 and S10+ a week before the MWC event. In his latest tweet, notable leakster, Evan Blass has already put out what the Samsung Galaxy S10 could look like.
This phone is seen to have a truly bezel-less display with a pin-hole camera at the top-right corner. At the bottom of the device, we can clearly see the headphone jack still present. Many prominent smartphone companies including Apple and Google had removed the headphone jack in their previous flagship devices. On the right side is the single speaker grill and the centre sports a USB-C port.
The company is also expected to give us an update on its latest project, the foldable phone. What this new line of devices will be named is still unclear. Purportedly, it will be called the Samsung Galaxy F. What can be inferred is that the price tag of this device is going to be heftier than its other flagship phones.
However, we will also get to see some important announcements during MWC this year. The Samsung Galaxy Sport or Samsung Galaxy Fit are some devices which are lined up. We may also see a refresh in Samsung’s mid-range line-up of iots Galaxy A series.
MWC this year is expected to see a slew of 5G compatible devices, and this narrative may not be different for One Plus either. The One Plus 7 is expected to launch in summer this year, but purportedly, the company is working on a more premium 5G device which will be at a higher price range than the One Plus 7 as the addition of 5G could push up the price tag of the device. Not much else is yet known about this device.
LG G7 ThinQ
According to South Korean media reports, the LG G8, which is the company’s flagship device, will be announced on February 24. LG has confirmed the date it will hold its event; however the company has not confirmed whether it will be launching the LG G8. Reports say that the device will be IP68 water and dust resistant. Purportedly, the phone will have a notch like the Google Pixel 3 sporting a first of its kind 3D selfie camera. A fingerprint sensor on the rear would mean, the device will not be following the general trend in 2019 of putting in-display fingerprint scanners. The LG G7 ThinQ was unveiled on May 2 last year, what remains to be seen is whether the company will follow the same design pattern as last year.
Sony usually unveils its flagship devices at Mobile World Congress; this year is not expected to be any different. The next flagship we are expecting to see is the Sony Xperia XZ4. Lately, this company has gone out of favour with some consumers due to its hefty price tag. However, this year the company may surprise us with its new device, as leaked renders show the phone sporting a triple-lens camera on the back. This is a huge jump from last year’s single-lens camera phone. However, leaks should always be taken with a pinch of salt.
Huawei had not announced the P20 device during MWC last year, but it had unveiled the Huawei P10 in MWC of 2017, therefore we can expect the next iteration of this line up being announced in MWC this year. According to reports, the phone is expected to sport either three or four cameras at the back with one of its lenses having a megapixel count as high as 38MP.
HTC has lately reduced the number of devices it announces every year, but it usually unveils a device or two during spring. Therefore, we can expect to see at least one device getting announced at MWC this year. One handset that is purportedly on the way is the HTC U12 Life. This device is expected to have 6GB ram as well as 128 GB storage.
Motorola has only recently announced its Moto G7 Range of smartphones. However, the company is expected to play on consumer’s nostalgia this year by bringing forth a new foldable device. This device, aptly named the Motorola Razr V4 is something all mobile phone enthusiasts are excited about. However, nothing much is yet known about this device except that it will sport a hefty price tag.
Oppo And Vivo
Last Year Vivo had unveiled its concept device called Vivo Apex. This was a prototype device with an in-screen fingerprint scanner and a pop-up selfie camera leading to an almost entirely bezel-less display. Both these features were later adopted by mainstream devices such as the Vivo Nex. This Company may surprise us again with a new prototype device this year. Vivo is also slated to launch the Vivo V15 Pro Soon.
According To Reports, Oppo Plans to launch a foldable phone this year at MWC. Another announcement also could be about the 5G handset the company is purportedly working on.
Microsoft has stopped producing smartphones, but it doesn’t mean it has given up on ‘mobile’ devices. This company will be one of the most keenly watched events, as it is expected to unveil the next generation to the HoloLens headset. The company has already stoked the flames of excitement with its recent cryptic video showing the date of the Microsoft event. The original HoloLens device was meant more for developers. The new generation of HoloLens is expected to be smaller and easier to use by consumers. Reports have also suggested a Qualcomm Snapdragon 850 chipset and new Project Kinect Sensors.
What makes this report more true is that, the person who has posted the video, Alex Kipman is one of the key persons behind the original HoloLens. This new device will help push the company’s agenda of mixed reality.
