‘RBI rate cut expected, but won’t lead to immediate transmission’

Keki Mistry, Vice Chairman & CEO of HDFC, said the RBI rate cut by was expected but whether the cut should have been a bigger one, he said the need for such a move can only be gauged after monsoon. On how it will translate into banking system, he said banks have not been able to lower deposit rates as liquidity is usually tight in February & March. It will take some time before banks can lower the deposit rates leading to monetary transmission, he said.
