Domestic Tea production is likely to decline by 15-20% in this fiscal as Assam floods hit the tea gardens. The flood, added to the already existing wage woes of tea farmers, has led to tea workers leaving the gardens in Assam, which accounts for about 49% of country’s tea production. Almost 85% of the country’s tea gardens have been hit by water shortage across states.
